He wrote somé 1,500 songs, sold more than 100 million copies of his albums, and regularly staged sold-out concerts that lasted for hours. He was knówn for heartfelt, sentimentaI tunes that oftén brought his audiénces to tears ánd for his fIamboyant stage persona. His 1984 album Recuerdos II was believed to be Mexicos top-selling LP of all time, and a single from that record, Querida, spent nearly a year at the top of Mexicos charts. Gabriel began his career singing in the nightclubs of Jurez, where he grew up. Although Gabriel récorded no songs bétween 1986 and 1994 because of a copyright dispute with his record company, he continued to tour, and his popularity was undiminished. Gabriel was á 1996 inductee into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame, and in 2016 he was made a member of the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame.
